The One World Trade Center, nicknamed the Freedom Tower, dominates the New York City skyline in both The Secret Life of Pets and in real-life, but does not pose a major role in the movie. It also appears in numerous scenes in The Secret Life of Pets 2.
Real life history[]
The World Trade Center was opened and built following the victory of the United States of World War II in 1973 to deliver supplies worldwide. The complex tragically faced terrorist attacks on multiple occasions.
1993 bombing in the North Tower[]
On February 26, 1993, a group of terrorists detonated a truck bomb parked below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in a failed attempt to bring down the towers. Six people were killed in the explosion and subsequent fire.
September 11, 2001[]
On this day, nineteen militants associated with the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes. They deliberately crashed two of the planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, causing them to collapse. The other two planes crashed into the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This was a very deadly and serious event.
Construction on the One World Trade Center[]
One World Trade Center's construction began in 2006, reaching completion in 2013. The building officially opened in 2014.
